No it's not "lost". It just isn't called Buddhism because... there is no such thing.
Buddhism was never a "social reform movement". Quite the opposite - they actively excluded lower castes, which is one of the reasons why Buddhism isn't real - it's just an extension of upper caste Hinduism.
Buddha himself survived mostly by having benefactors (local kings) who sent him food/money/support and Buddha was cremated as a Kshatriya.
The idea that he was trying to help Dalits etc. is hilarious.
Bhimtas chose Buddhism because they didn't want to replace the authority of Brahmins with the authority of the jews (jesus) but ended up replacing it with a Kshatriya (which is arguably worse since they are also the landowners who actually hate Bhimtas the most since they lose the most if equalization happens).
