I already knew about this since I was 11 yo, only thing I am shocked about is this is the first time in many centuries this has happened which actually puts question mark in the quality of preservation of the Vedas
If this has been done the first time in centuries in the most reliable encryption form how are we so certain that the preservation was right since the entire claim of the preservation being accurate being these preservation techniques
Genuine question, I am Shudra btw

Serious question to brahmins here, I genuinely thought you guys had families passing down scriptures in all the 8 encryption/chanting forms in an unbroken lineage and that is what the entire claim to your glory/position in culture is.
If this is the first time since 700 years that someone has chanted the ENTIRE Shukla Yajurveda from memory in one go in just ONE method of the Dandakram Parayanam, how am I supposed to believe that all the scriptures were kept like this for centuries ?
Genuine question, I don't mean ill will. When I got this news my first reaction was that "isn't this the standard and always done? ", I was shocked to know this is second time in a millenia

Also this is JUST the Shukla Yajurveda, and just ONE of the encryption forms. The rarity of this incident is extremely shocking to me

families learn and pass down only a certain sub-section of each veda and not the entire veda.

Sanskrit was created specifically to create, compose and transmit the vedas and preserve them as exactly as possible. That's the whole original purpose of the language. That's why it has many safety mechanisms that ensure nothing can be changed or mistaken
Theres 3 basic safety mechanisms:
1. rhythm (chanda)
2. intonation (svara) and
3. the content/meaning (artha/pada)
it's like singing a song and somebody sings a completely different song , its pretty much impossible to do this in Sanskrit if anybody else except yourself knows what you are trying to chant
danda krama is a special vikriti (style of chanting) which combines a chanda + pada in a special looping style
>>370618
> first time in X years
Yes , it is not true. There are many Jatis (not just families) that learn this and perform this. Nambuthiris for example run schools with tens of thousands of people doing this stuff.
In theory you can use any vikriti you like to do this btw, danda krama is just one of them.
> all scriptures were kept
they aren't scriptures, they are chants
and the integrity of the chants is very easy to verify if you know the safety mechanisms
Sanskrit in general is very easy once you know the grammar rules. So its hard to invent, and a lot of work to "perform" but easy to verify.

everyone can memorise it. memorization is not the issue. it's a specific way to recite it as explained in this vid. it's a deeper way to memorize it i would say. and you cannot make a single mistake in order or the pronunciation of any word. in fact, this is exactly how the vedas must have been protected before tools.

first of all it has been 200 years, no this isn't some generic recitation, it is sort of a competitive recitation.
