The main thing here is to create traditions independent of Brahmins and at the same time these traditions should honour brahmins in some way, then only you and your lineage will get upgraded to a higher Varna. Thats how Rajputs did it. Rajputs are almost totally independent of Brahmins regarding their traditions in Rajasthan, they only employ Brahmins as professional priests and nothing more. Brahmins cannot change the Rajput traditions at a whim like they can chage the traditions of other communities. Khatris today are a good example of how total dependence on Brahmins (Hindu Shahis of North-West) could lead to erosion of (indian) idedtities. Khatris have high inter-(indian) marriages. After 200-300 yeards the descendants of these Khatris will be called Shudras but Rajputs will remain Kshatriya due to independent traditions.
