So I just happened to watch a part of this podcast
So my question is, this guy pratik mahta was born in india, a citizen of india, but somehow became a NATO SWO (Special warfare operator). He has worked closely with french foreign legion but is not part of the unit. He has fought in Afghanistan, iraq and terror groups like Boko haram in Africa. So how is an Indian national doing all this? Is he a mercenary or something? Is it even legal for indians to fight for other countries?

idk about it most of the times when some friendly exercise happens if certain indian units completely those exercises - sometimes training within it - they earn certain badges - this is how brats kang about xyz getting into SEAL so on...
i don't think to be part of the french legion you have to be french.
you can join PMCs - some soldiers like saurabh singh sekhawat who are genuinely interested in learning and love the life of operator have bought kits from their own salary when they were serving, after retirement he went and trained furhter in usa so on.
in general Indian sf units lack any standardisation - that basic SF school doesn't count. their training is nothing special. they are brave men but they are being lead by people who are clueless.
