I sometimes have to travel by shatabdi in northern lundia route for work and stuff, but I have noticed something absolutely retarded among passengers in this particular train.
That is, a lot of people loudly converse in angrezi with their shotey bache and other family members who are traveling with them.
Why do they so this? Its not like they don't understand hinthi. Nyoo. They do understand it. But nyoooo. Hum to angrezi hi bolenge. A lot of them even talk with the poor bimaru majdoor waiterjeets in their angrezi, making it hard for the waiterjeets to understand what they are actually trying to say.

Well its retarded if they r using english with vendors but whats wrong in conversing in english. I converse in english with my little sister, friends and dad at times and it just happens with natural flow of conversation without much thought to it. We use english for work and education so much and consume so much of western media that now even internal dialogue is in english. Growing up as army brats likely also played a role. You mostly use english in cantt. among officer families. Tho my hindi writing skills were great. I was a wordcel. Languages were my forte in school and teachers regarded me as a remarkable essayist, but while speaking, convenience takes priority.

Abe pajeet, i could even write essays in sanskrit during my schooldays. I had reached that level of fluency which i sadly let degrade because priorities and a dead language was not my priority. English isnt just a sepoy thing in present times. It is a global language. It is absolutely necessary in professional and business world and for higher education. Hindi will not take you anywhere. Tho it is a good lingua franca for much of the subcontinent for conversing with folks with low education. In professional world, it is pretty much useless.
