Kanjar

> The Kanjar are a primarily nomadic or semi-nomadic community found in North India, Pakistan, and parts of Kashmir

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanjar

> In the British Raj, the Kanjaris were listed under the 1871 Criminal Tribes Act as a tribe "addicted to the systematic commission of non-bailable offenses.

Kanjar is used as a slur just like any other dalit/tribal c@ste name is used as a slur, but i saw it being used openly in newspaper whereas they don't name other c@stes.

News say that villagers fear their gangs, which is interesting cuz kanjars are really less in number and generally villagers themselves get rid of such groups. So are they really like animals who are unpredictable and attack anyone even elders & women.

Prostitution seems like the only legal occupation of them

There isn't much info about the tribe online.

200-300k would be their population and they are sparsely spread all over MP, RJ and UP.

Sucks tht we are following british norms against our own people

Hmm, I do not know maybe profiling and putting entire communities in jail isn't a good environment for encouraging good behaviour. Who knows.
