Nothing new, a lot of languages survive centuries of persecution. Irish and polish come to mind. Its strange though, was the oldest iteration of the torah written in greek? I'd expect the original to be hebrew and or/aramaic.

The Old Testament was conceived in Biblical Hebrew only. However, it wasn't until the Ptolemaic period circa 250 BC, that Jewish texts were canonized. And as you know, the Ptolemaic dynasty was Greek.
