you probably care from some döner news.
before the turkish came to germany, raw vegetables was not part of the diet of the people here. before döner people would eat lots of cooked potato (which unlike raw vegetables is very difficult to digest. they used the starch in potato as wallpaper-glue...)
i'd say the invention of the döner was the single most beneficial event ever to change the german eating habits for the better. i think it made germans healthier.
now things are changing because döner used to be a food so cheap everybody can easily afford it. now since the years of inflation have gnawed on it, it is getting so expensive that people are no longer eating it that much. it is no longer cheaper then other options. my guess is health is going to deteriorate because of it, now the cheapest options are types of factory bread. there is literally a chain called back-factory. i think that's where people go for cheap calories, which is a shame because it is all just factory grains, no longer fresh vegetables.
