I am pretty sure they simply didn't have an ambulance, this is common in villages, many cases where people themselves have to take away the dead body on tractors and even thelas.

In majority of cases you are supposed to book the vehicle yourself, that has a dedicated job of transporting the dead body. How this is not even known is amazing.
The crux of matter is Dalits can't afford the said personal services of vehicles.
