Also understand how the apt package manager works and basic linux commands like ls, grep, curl etc
Then learn bash scripting
Use the terminal as much as possible, once you're able to use the OS entirely using the terminal, you'll understand the power of linux.
Terminal + browser is how I use my machine mostly, no GUI unless absolutely needed.
