Primary role of the existing IOC/FOC variants of tejas is currently point defense. Though they are capable of multirole tasks.
There are two squadrons (almost 32+ 8trainers) of these, either stationed in Sulur (Tamil Nadu), gujarat or Rajasthan. They were probably part of the combat patrol.
Not part of the offensive missions.
