3778: It was narrated to us by 'Aarim and 'Affan who said: It was narrated to us by Mu'tamir who said: My father told me that Abu Tamimah narrated from 'Amr, who might have said that Al-Bakali narrated from 'Amr, from 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud. 'Amr said that 'Abdullah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent me, and we set out until we reached a certain place. He drew a line for me and said, "Stay within this line, and do not leave it, for if you do, you will be destroyed." I stayed within it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went on a little distance or farther, or as he said. He then mentioned a group of beings, like the Zutt. 'Affan said or as he said: "They were not wearing clothes, and I could not see their private parts. They were tall and had little flesh." He said: "They came and started to ride the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) started to recite to them. They came to me, and they appeared to sway around me and hinder me." 'Abdullah said: "I was very terrified of them. I sat down or as he said. 'Aarim said in his narration: "Some of them said to each other: This servant has been given goodness, or as they said, his eyes are asleep or he said one eye or as they said and his heart is awake." 'Aarim and 'Affan said that some of them said to each other: "Come, let us give him a parable or as they said." They said to each other: "Give him a parable, and we will interpret it or we give it, and you interpret it." Some of them said to each other: "His example is like a master who built a strong building and then sent people with food or as he said. Whoever did not come to his food or did not follow him, he punished them severely or as they said." Others said: "The master is the Lord of the worlds, the building is Islam, the food is Paradise, and the caller is the Prophet. Whoever followed him was in Paradise." 'Aarim said in his narration: "Or as they said, whoever did not follow him was punished or as they said." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "What did you see, O son of Umm 'Abd?" 'Abdullah said: "I saw such and such." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Nothing of what they said was hidden from me." The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "They were a group of angels or as he said, they were angels or as Allah willed."
